Urban expressions

This was actuallt the first vegan bag brand that I got in contact with after becoming vegan. Urban expressions make playful, stylish bags, often with original details and colors.

Started in 2005, this brand is all about creating high-fashion vegan accessories that doesn´t compromise on style or ethics. Being among the more well established brands on the market, Urban expressions has been featured in many magazines and seen on the arms on well-known fashionistas.

Fashion UP!

Sustainable fashion has still got a long way to go before it will get the attention it deserves in today´s fast fashion culture. That is why I believe that every way to raise awareness about, and increase the avaliability of, sustainable brands is very important. I am lucky enough to live in Sweden´s second largest city, which means more access to designers and entrepreneurs who share my vision.

During May 12-14 I got to experience Fashion UP!, a sustainable fashion event in Gothenburg arranged by Klädoteket. I participated at the opening show and got to meet a lot of nice local designers and small businesses, all dedicated to fashion in a sustainable way. These are some of my favorites:

By Frida EM

Frida is a passionate designer with a vision to change the world. She creates unique accessories and clothes from used bicycle tubes, and her idea is to keep it local in terms of both material and making. Keep your eyes on this one, I think her energy and designs can take her far.

This diamond necklace… <3

How amazing is this body belt?!

Filippa Strand Berg

Filippa makes the most amazing, romantic clothes from reused materials such as old curtains. I just love that idea, and I really enjoyed looking at her beautiful creations!

Filippa and her beautiful designs, wearing one of her own off shoulder tops.

Toba

Toba is a brand dedicated to clean design and good materials. Their cotton is GOTS certified, and they support the Great Andoh International School in Ghana with each sale. I love the fact that they are located in Gothenburg, too <3

Lovisa Sköld

Jewelry with a purpose and great design – Lovisa nails it with her empowering pieces!

LOVE the Uterus necklace on the right!

Lovisa to the left and Mia from Starry eyes to the right

Starry eyes

This is a designer with a creative yet simple style. Mia is a bubbly person and I believe it is reflected in her design. By reusing old saris she gives the fabric new life and makes it avaliable to the modern fashionista. (Note: since the fabric is mostly made from silk this is not a vegan designer. Personally I am against all use of fabric made with or from animals, but I like the idea to reuse fabric that would otherwise be thrown away.)

Beautiful dresses and kimonos!

I am so happy to have been able to show you some great small business Swedish designers that are all about sustainability!

EcoTools

Not only the content and origin of your makeup should be reviewed thoroughly – don´t forget about the tools you use to apply it! I believe that makeup brushes can be the key to any successful makeup look, and I don´t want to apply my foundation with hair from dead animals, no thank you.

EcoTools provides high quality makeup brushes that are cruelty free (vegan), made from recycled materials, and comes in an eco-friendly packaging made from cotton and bamboo fibres (amazing!). They also have a great range of other products, such as cleansing sponges, hair brushes and more.

They are collaborating with The Girl Project to help girls all over the world get to go to school. Everytime you share your experience from EcoTools on social media, using #MyTrueBeauty and tagging @ecotools, they donate money to this great project. Beauty with a cause ♥

Dana Young

Living in the city, dreaming of the forest…

Inspired by nature and animals, this jewlery artist creates the most amazing pieces. Dana Young uses traditional hand craft and locally produced materials in the making of her jewelry. She is a true friend to nature and animals, donating shares of her profit to different animal and environmental organizations.

The rings, necklaces, earrings and wristlets are edgy and cute with animal themes, metals and beautiful stones from nature. Wearing these pieces creates a subtle but clear statement – animals and mother nature rocks!

Priti NYC

Nail polish time! This is actually one of the first vegan nail polish brands that I got in contact with, and I bought a lovely red color that is perfect for winter. I really like the texture, color and durability of Priti NYC and it is just as good, if not even better, as any non-vegan brand you can think of. Something being vegan is for me just another sign of quality.

Priti NYC is vegan, not tested on animals, gluten free and eco friendly. The polishes do not contain chemical toxins like toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, and camphor, xylene, parabens, and TPHP. Made in the USA with a luxury feel to the bottles and the formula, this brand has over 100 different shades to choose between. Priti NYC has been on the nails of models during many dufferent fashion shows – yey, go vegan brands! Here are some of their newest shades:

PS. Their nail polish remover is apparently the best, you should try it out if you get the chance!

Noumenon

Noumenon. Just the name is full of soft elegance, and that also describes this brand and its collections very well. Based in Amsterdam, Noumenon is focusing on chic clothing for women, that has a simple design with a twist. They have some pieces that goes well at the office, and other that are perfect for home wear. The fabrics used are all eco-friendly and vegan, off course, like organic cotton, linen, and Tencel.

Nomenon’s collections are made in Europe, and packaged and delivered in an eco-friendly way. Conscoiusness all the way, in other words.

Their pieces are soft-colored, comfortable and many of them have a geometrical twist. I also love the fact that they just launched their own skincare line! Spreading the love and making cruelty free shopping easy and avaliable.
