What happens when four Danish guys comes together in the same frustration about the dirty fashion industry? They start talking about how over-priced and of bad quality many big brands are, and about how unsustainable and unfair it is to continue buying badly made underwear by underpaid workers. They decide to do something about it – and this is the story of how Organic basics was born.
When I was contacted by Léna from Organic basics with the offer to try some of their underwear I started, as always, by doing my homework. I was happy to find that the brand only uses GOTS certified organic cotton, which means that the cotton is produced under eco-friendly and ethical conditions. I fell in love with their simple, timeless, Scandinavian design – and when trying them on I was truly happy with the fit, feel and quality. To tell you the truth I´ve been wearing my new bra and t-shirt almost every day since.

Organic basics are conscious all the way, from sourcing their fabric to reducing the amount of water and energy use in their (European) factories. They have a slow fashion mindset with no seasonal collecions, just timeless and functional pieces that will last years to come.
Apart from organic cotton they also use a fabric called SelverTech – sustainably sourced silver threads that are mixed with the cotton to create an anti-bacterial, breathable fabric that needs less washing. Yet another way to reduce the negative impact of their clothes. On their website you can read about how the ancient greeks used silver coins to keep their water clean – how cool is that? For SilverTech 2.0, Organic basics will use recycled nylon that´s been treated with silver to create a more sustainable collection that will require even less washing. Nylon also takes less water and energy to produce, and lasts longer than cotton. Just make sure to use a washing bag for micro-plastics when washing your nylon clothes.
I must say I am very impressed! Organic basics feels modern, fresh, innovative, and customer focused. They are a living proof that it is possible to create ethical, sustainable, forward thinking clothing that looks good and feels great. Come on fast fashion brands – there are no excuses!
