Zouri – eco-vegan footwear

I love shoes, and I guess many of you do, too. However, I try to limit the amount of shoes I own, because I want to minimize my ecological impact. So every new pair of shoes that I do get, will have to be as sustainable as possible – and vegan, of course.

Trying to reduce my use of plastic – read more about my veiw on this in my post about plastic – is also a major concern of mine. Lots of our plastic waste ends up the ocean, which is a HUGE problem. Taking care of marine litter is therefore extremely important, and we have to be smart about it. In a previous brand post a told you about a great company making bracelets from plastic waste. Now it´s time for another one – and this time it´s all about the shoes!

Zouri – turning waste into fashion

Zouri works for a plastic free ocean, one step at a time. You can read on their wedsite:

Over 220 million tons of plastic are produced each year. About 8 million ends up in the ocean. More than one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals die each year from plastic debris. Unless we take action, by 2050 our oceans will contain more plastic than fish.

In their latest effort, Zouri managed to collect 1,500 kg of marine litter. From this plastic waste they make beautiful, vegan and eco-friendly sandals – the most fantastic way to create awareness and re-using waste. In each sandal, 6 water bottles are used, mixed with natural and organic materials like Piñatex, natural rubber and cork.

The Zouri sandals are produced by local artisans in Portugal, which is also where the the plastic is collected. Fair, vegan and sustainable – I am absolutely in love with this brand! You can support them on Indigogo and get a pair of these awesome shoes for yourself.
